Defence
Heading
Our client faced two charges of assisting an offender contrary to Section 4(1) of the Criminal Law Act 1967. These charges stemmed from allegations of facilitating the escape of individuals who were involved in an armed robbery and the possession of firearms.
If convicted, our client faced the possibility of a substantial custodial sentence, however, thanks to Ashmans expertise, the case against our client was discontinued.
The Allegations
The Crown alleged that, on 25 October 2011, our client [the defendant] assisted two individuals who were wanted for armed robbery and possession of firearms. The Prosecution claimed that our client helped to facilitate their escape from the UK to Amsterdam, via a Eurolines coach.
Messages retrieved from mobile phones suggested that our client, along with one other individual, was aware of their wanted status. If convicted, our client faced a significant custodial sentence.

The Challenges
This case presented several key challenges:
- The severe penalties associated with the charges, including a substantial term of imprisonment.
- The Prosecution’s reliance on mobile phone messages.
- The need to counter allegations of intent and awareness, which were pivotal to the Prosecution’s case.
We needed to overcome these challenges, in order to secure a favourable outcome for our client.

The Result
Following relentless negotiations and detailed legal representations, the case against our client was discontinued, and all charges were dropped; our client was therefore exonerated. This outcome not only secured our client’s freedom but also protected them from the life-altering consequences of a criminal conviction.
The successful outcome in this case underscores the importance of experienced and dedicated legal representation when facing serious criminal allegations.
