Rape and the Law
Under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, rape is defined as intentionally penetrating the vagina, anus, or mouth of another person with a penis, without their consent, and without a reasonable belief in consent. It is one of the gravest criminal offences under England & Wales law, carrying a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
